Walking Decreases PainWalking decreases pain, low back and knee pain specifically. The simple act of walking has been shown to reduce low back pain, especially brisk walking.  Walking has been shown to decrease knee pain from osteoarthritis.  What else does walking do?  A lot. Walking 30 minutes a day has been shown to have benefits ranging from reducing symptoms of depression to reducing blood pressure and lowering heart attack risk.  If you did nothing else physical the rest of your life other than walk 30 minutes a day your muscles, bones, joints, heart, and even your brain will thank you.  Check out this visual lecture  23 1/2 hours by Dr. Mike Evans that lays out the health benefits of walking, you’ll be amazed.

People often have excuses has to why they don’t exercise.  The most common excuse is lack of time.  Walking requires no gym, no equipment, nothing.  A person can walk for thirty minutes during their lunch break.  A person can park farther from the building they work in.  A person can take stairs instead of the elevator.  A person can park father out when shopping.  The list goes on.  You don’t even have to set aside thirty minutes per day to walk, you can modify your day to walk farther frequently so it adds up to thirty minutes.  The possibilities are endless.  The benefits are substantial.

Make a commitment to walk!  Start with this and add other forms of exercise as you become more healthy and fit.  Start small and build.  Or, as you’ll know after checking out the video, just walk and don’t worry about anything else.  Walking is truly the minimum effective dose of exercise needed to stay healthy.

If you’re unable to work walking into your daily life you really don’t deserve to be healthy.  I don’t mean this in a negative way, it’s just that walking is so easy and there are multiple opportunities do it every day.  No matter who you are or what you do.
